Can-Traffic has the stability and consistency that you have been looking for. We are actively hiring full-time Apprentice Electricians for year-round work with opportunities for growth. As an Apprentice Electrician, you will assist in a variety of installation, maintenance and repair projects involving streetlights, traffic signals, pedestrian crossovers, signage, flashing beacons and other traffic electrical devices. Apprentice Electricians can work along side both our Maintenance and Construction teams as part of a 2–5-person crew.  You will work 40–50-hour weeks with opportunities for overtime. The majority of the of the work is completed during the day in Edmonton and surrounding municipalities with periodic out of town and night shift assignments. To thrive in this role you must be a hard-working individual with some exposure to the industry, can show up on time everyday and work in a physically demanding environment.  Join our team and help “SAFELY GUIDE FAMILIES HOME”.

What you will do Everyday

  • Assist with the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic signal systems, subsystems, pedestrian crossovers, street lighting, flashing beacons and other traffic electrical devices
  • Assist with the implementation and monitoring of traffic signal timing plans
  • Assist with routine diagnostics of signal malfunctions utilizing traffic signal control systems
  • Assist with designing and implementing maintenance procedures
  • Maintain accurate records, including material inventory and diaries of daily activities
  • Maintain, inspect, and clean vehicles and equipment
  • Ensure quality, compliance, and safety of company’s assets
  • Perform other activities as directed by the supervisor

Skills Required

  • Strong time management and organizational skills with an ability to be adaptable, manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of machinery, equipment, and tools necessary for the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic cabinets and roadway lighting
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties
  • Ability to work in inclement weather conditions
  • Ability to workdays/nights/weekends or out of town if necessary
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills

Qualifications Needed

  • Apprentice Electrician
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and submission of a 3-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • Standard First Aid Certification
  • CSTS
