As a Traffic Signals Technician with Can-Traffic Services, you will  install, maintain and repair traffic signal systems, subsystems, pedestrian crossovers, street lighting, flashing beacons and other traffic electrical devices. Our Traffic Signal Technicians work a 12 hours 7 and 7 in-town schedule navigating the City of Edmonton and surrounding municipalities. What you will do Everyday

  • Contribute to the development of strong and effective teams, supporting the crew to be successful in their roles and gain the knowledge and skills required to advance in their field of expertise
  • Displays accountability when providing responsible leadership to crews in the completion of assignments on a day-to-day operational basis while meeting workload and safety requirements
  • Liaison with Department staff, other City Departments, public sector agencies, contractors and City residents, regarding signal installation, maintenance and operational concerns
  • Participates in the inspection of new traffic signal installations and repairs for compliance with construction plans, specifications, and electrical codes
  • Install, maintain and repair traffic signal systems, subsystems, pedestrian crossovers, street lighting, flashing beacons and other traffic electrical devices
  • Implement and monitor traffic signal timing plans
  • Perform routine diagnostics of signal malfunctions utilizing traffic signal control systems
  • Maintain accurate records, including material inventory and diaries of daily activities
  • Assist with designing and implementing maintenance procedures
  • Ensure quality, compliance, and safety of company’s assets
  • Maintain, inspect, and clean vehicles and equipment

 

Skills Required

  • Strong time management and organizational skills with an ability to be adaptable, manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to facilitate conflict resolution internally and externally
  • Ability to identify opportunities and potential risks when making repair and maintenance decisions
  • Knowledge of electronics, digital logic, microprocessors and PLC’s
  • Knowledge of machinery, equipment, and tools necessary for the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic cabinets and roadway lighting
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties
  • Ability to work in inclement weather conditions
  • Strong computer skills

 

Qualifications Needed

  • Valid Journeyman Electrician, or Power Lineman certificate with experience in municipal traffic signal operations
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 (non GDL) driver’s license and submission of a 3-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • Valid Fall Protection, Standard First Aid, Aerial Work Platform safety certificates
  • International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA CPS) Signal certification
    • IMSA CPS Work Zone Certification
    • IMSA CPS Traffic Signal Technician Level I (TSI)
    • IMSA CPS Traffic Signal Technician Level II (TSII)
