Are you a Journeyman Electrician with knowledge and hands on experience working on traffic signals and street lighting? Can-Traffic is a stable construction company that completes a range of civil construction and maintenance services, including highway maintenance throughout Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan.

 Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specifications to determine the layout of electrical equipment installations
  • Install electrical and electronic systems in various devices, including traffic signals, traffic control devices, closed circuit TV, highway, and overhead sign lighting, building service panels, building lighting, lab trailers, motors and controls, heating/cooling systems, brine/ magnesium chloride pumps, generators, and various communication and other equipment
  • Install, repairs, or replaces malfunctioning traffic signal control systems and street light systems
  • Install, repair and calibrates complex electronic control devices
  • Install, examine, replace, or repair electrical wiring, distribution equipment, disconnects, breaker panels and other related devices
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair machinery, equipment, and tools necessary for the installation, maintenance, and repair of roadway lighting
  • Repairs or replaces malfunctioning traffic signal control systems and street light systems
  • Repairs and calibrates complex electronic control devices
  • Maintains a variety of records and logs of malfunctions and work performed
  • Inspects traffic control and lighting systems installed to ensure conformity with plans, specifications, and prevailing electrical codes
  • Observes safe work methods and safety precautions relevant to the work
  • Assists in designing and implementing maintenance procedures
  • Ensure that all work meets the latest electrical codes and standards
  • Complete projects from start to finish with high workmanship standards and efficiency
  • Ensure quality, compliance, and safety of company’s assets

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to facilitate conflict resolution internally and externally
  • Ability to identify opportunities and potential risks when making repair and maintenance decisions
  • Excellent analysis, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of OH&S Acts and Legislation
  • Knowledge of roadway electrical operations
  • Knowledge of machinery, equipment, and tools necessary for the installation, maintenance, and repair of roadway lighting
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods

 

Qualifications

  • Valid Journeyman Electrician certificate
  • International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA CPS) Signal certification
    • IMSA CPS Work Zone Certification
    • IMSA CPS Traffic Signal Technician Level I
    • IMSA CPS Traffic Signal Technician Level II
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 (non GDL) driver’s license and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • Fall Protection, Standard First Aid, Aerial Work Platform are assets
